Alright, guys. Remember I said a few months ago that I’ll never be prepared for Rooney’s departure? It will be announced any time now, and I feel completely numb.
As I dread for that moment, my mind races back to various Wayne Rooney moments which made beautiful memories. A phenomenon at the age of 18, a living hell for the defenders, and those of us lucky ones who witnessed his prime know the heights of his greatness as a player. Even when he faded away, there was never a game where his commitment level fell a cent below hundred.
I was led into this great football club by him. I celebrated all our victories with him. I lived through the pains of losses with him. Wayne has impacted, and has been a part of every moment of mine at Manchester United.
It is just a pity that even after being at the club for 13 years, becoming the highest goalscorer and winning every possible trophy in that time, some of us still have to be convinced into admitting the status of this man as a Legend. Many came and many left, many will come and many will go, but there’ll be only one Wayne Rooney. This man, right there, who was here until the end. The keystone to so much of success we’ve had, Wayne should be remembered as nothing less than a legend.
He came a boy, conquered the Old Trafford. He leaves a man, a void too large to fill. Wayne Rooney. Take a bow.
Thanks for making me fall in love with the game, Wayne Rooney. There will never be another you ever again.
A legend. Forever.
“Remember the name, Wayne Rooney.”
